White Cake

2 1/2 c. flour
1 2/3 c. sugar
2/3 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
5 egg whites
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix dry ingredients, add shortening and 3/4 cup milk. Beat for 2 minutes with mixer. Add remaining ingredients. Pour into 2 (9 inch) layer pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
