Date Nut Chocolate Party Cake

1 c. chopped dates
1 1/4 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 dash salt
3/4 c. soft margarine
2 eggs
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. Hershey cocoa
1 1/2 c. flour

Mix together dates, boiling water and baking soda and let set. Mix margarine, eggs, sugar, cocoa, salt and flour. Add dates mixture and place in 13"x9" pan (greased and floured). Add topping of 1/2 cup sugar, 1 package chocolate chips and 1 1/2 cups nuts. Bake for 40 minutes.
